Hair loss is personal.
Your treatment should be too.

No two people experience hair loss in the same way. Genetics, age, lifestyle and other individual factors can all influence how it changes over time.

Our Australian doctors take this into account, reviewing your progress and adjusting treatment where appropriate to suit your needs.

THP clinical

Clinically-led hair loss treatment from the comfort of home.

The Hairy Pill® is an Australian-owned, once-daily treatment program designed to address hair loss and support healthy hair growth.*

Your treatment is personalised by our doctors, with regular phone consultations to review your progress and adjust treatment where appropriate. Treatment is dispatched by an Australian pharmacy directly to your door.

Developed by world-renowned dermatologist Professor Rodney Sinclair, The Hairy Pill® is built on close to 40 years of clinical experience treating hair loss.

*Individual results may vary.

Your treatment and ongoing care. All in one place.

Our doctors will talk you through your treatment options. Treatment may contain pharmaceutical-grade active ingredients.

  • One pill a day: A treatment plan based on your individual needs.
  • Ongoing clinical care: Regular reviews to monitor your progress and adjust treatment where appropriate.
  • Home delivery: Treatment dispatched directly by an Australian pharmacy.
  • Ongoing support: Help from our Australian patient services team when you need it.

Think months, not weeks.

Hair grows in cycles, so results take time. Results generally show within 3–6 months. Regular doctor reviews track progress and adjust treatment as required.

  • 0–3 months: Hair loss may begin to slow, and new hairs might start emerging as they replace older strands.
  • 3–6 months: Shedding may decrease, while early signs of new hair growth, stronger hair and increased thickness may become more noticeable.
  • 6–12 months: Hair may appear thicker, fuller and stronger, with continued improvements in overall hair health possible.

Individual results may vary.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR HAIR LOSS

It’s rarely just one thing, everyone’s
hair is unique in its own way

Hair follicles change over time

Hair loss usually happens gradually, not all at once. In many common forms, affected hair follicles produce finer, shorter hairs with each cycle, a process called miniaturisation, making hair look thinner and less dense over time.

Because the change is so gradual, many people only notice it in hindsight. An old photo, a passing comment or a slow realisation over time.

Hair grows in cycles

Every hair follicle follows its own natural hair cycle of growth, transition and shedding. At any given time, thousands of follicles are working independently, which is why naturally shedding some hair each day is considered a normal part of the cycle.

This also helps explain why hair loss and recovery are rarely linear. There may be periods where shedding increases, appears to stabilise, or changes become more noticeable, even though the underlying process is evolving gradually.

Different causes of hair loss

Genetics play a role, but they’re only part of the picture. Hormonal changes, age, medical conditions, medications, nutrition and stress can all influence how hair grows and sheds.

Understanding what’s contributing to your hair loss helps the doctor decide the most appropriate approach, which may include a review of treatment options.

Can You Cure Baldness?

There is no permanent cure for baldness and hair loss. (Not yet, at least.) But that doesn’t mean you’re out of options. There are many effective treatments today that will help protect the hair you already have, and even support regrowth. When you notice your hairline creeping back or your part starting to widen, it […]

Mature Hairline or Receding? How to Tell the Difference and What to Do Next Your hairline is not a static thing. It moves and changes over time. Most notably (particularly for men), it can retreat. Ever wondered how your hair actually grows? Most people imagine it just gets longer day by day, but in reality, human hair grows at a rate of hair averaging 0.35 mm per day. Every single strand works through repeating stages of growth, rest and shedding. At any moment around 85 to 90 percent of your […]

Some common questions

What's in The Hairy Pill?

The Hairy Pill is personalised to you, so what’s recommended depends on your hair loss pattern, medical history and goals, all assessed by a partner doctor as part of your consultations. Because treatment is tailored, there’s no single ingredient list that applies to everyone.

Hair loss can develop for a number of different reasons, so understanding the different types of hair loss can help explain why treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Once our partner doctor has confirmed the right approach, your treatment is prepared by our partner pharmacy.

Got a question before you start? Reach out to our team on (03) 8899 6322 or email [email protected].

What types of hair loss are there?

Hair loss can show up in different ways, and understanding the type you’re dealing with is the first step to finding the right approach.

  • Androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness) is a genetic condition causing gradual thinning, bald spots or a receding hairline.
  • Telogen effluvium is shedding triggered by stress, illness or hormonal changes, and often shows up alongside androgenetic alopecia.
  • Hormone-related shedding can follow childbirth, breastfeeding, menopause, thyroid conditions or PCOS.
  • Weight loss related shedding can happen when rapid or significant weight loss puts nutritional and physiological stress on the body.
  • Diffuse thinning is a general reduction in hair density across the scalp, rather than in one area.
  • Damaged hair refers to breakage and weakening from heat, chemical or mechanical stress.
  • Traction alopecia comes from constant pulling on the follicles, often from tight hairstyles like braids, ponytails or extensions.

Because causes vary so much, working out what’s actually going on usually needs a proper look, not a guess. That’s what your consultations with a partner doctor are for.

How does The Hairy Pill work?

The Hairy Pill is a subscription-based telehealth service for hair loss. You start by completing a short online assessment, which is reviewed by our partner doctor. If appropriate, our partner doctor will call you by phone to discuss your treatment plan. Your details are then sent to our partner pharmacy, where our partner pharmacist will also call you before your treatment is dispatched.

You’ll have ongoing access to doctor consultations and support from our care team throughout your subscription, with your plan reviewed and adjusted as needed over time.

How personalised is The Hairy Pill?

Completely. Your treatment is built around your individual response, medical history and goals, not a standard approach applied to everyone. Your partner doctor considers factors like your medical history, current medications, previous treatments, age, symptoms and treatment goals before deciding whether treatment is appropriate, and if so, what that looks like for you.

Because hair grows in natural cycles, your hair can change over time, this is why regular consultations matter. Your partner doctor reviews your progress and refines your plan as needed, rather than setting it once and leaving it.

Once a partner doctor has confirmed your plan, it’s prepared by our partner pharmacy specifically for you, rather than pulled from an off-the-shelf formula.

What makes The Hairy Pill different?

A lot of hair loss treatments involve juggling multiple products, routines or separate appointments. The Hairy Pill simplifies that into one straightforward approach, backed by ongoing oversight from our partner doctor, pharmacist support, and delivery straight to your door.

Your treatment plan is built around your individual history and response, and reviewed at ongoing consultations so it can be adjusted where clinically appropriate.

It’s less about chasing a routine and more about having a plan that actually fits your life, with real clinical support behind it the whole way through.

How long does it take to see changes?

There’s no overnight fix for hair loss, and treatment takes time and consistency. Hair grows in natural cycles, and every hair follicle is at a different stage, so any changes may happen gradually rather than all at once.

Your progress is reviewed at ongoing consultations, so you’re never left guessing how things are tracking for you.

Are there potential side effects?

Like most treatments, hair loss treatments can cause side effects, although many people don’t experience any. The type and likelihood vary depending on what’s recommended, your medical history and other individual factors.

A partner doctor and partner pharmacist take your treatment history into account when tailoring your plan, and aim to use the lowest appropriate dose for your needs.

That’s what Side Effect Protect® is: our approach to ongoing clinical support, designed to help you continue treatment safely and comfortably. If side effects come up or your circumstances change, our partner doctor can review your treatment and make adjustments where clinically appropriate, at no additional charge.

Because individual responses can change over time, we encourage you to reach out whenever something feels off rather than waiting for your next scheduled consultation. Contact our team anytime at [email protected] or (03) 8899 6322.

What if I have allergies or dietary preferences?

Your allergies, intolerances and personal preferences are all taken into account by our partner doctor and pharmacist when your plan is put together. Your assessment includes questions about your medical history, allergies and current medications, so these can be considered before treatment is recommended.

The Hairy Pill is gluten-free, and vegetarian or vegan capsule options are available too, including for dietary, lifestyle or religious preferences, where clinically appropriate.

Because everything is made specifically for you, your plan can often be tailored to avoid certain ingredients where clinically appropriate. If you develop a new allergy or reaction while receiving treatment, contact our team promptly so our partner doctor can review your care.

How does the subscription and payment work?

The Hairy Pill runs as a subscription, covering your consultations, pharmacist dispensing, clinical support and delivery.

Your subscription includes:

  • Consultations with a partner doctor, including additional consultations where clinically appropriate
  • Treatment plan reviews and adjustments over time
  • Streamlined repeat delivery and express shipping
  • Ongoing patient support throughout your treatment

Treatment starts with an upfront 3-month payment of $225, covering your assessment, monitoring and initial reviews. From month 4, it moves to $75 per month, covering ongoing treatment management and support.

Following your initial assessment, our partner doctor reviews your progress approximately every three months to make sure your treatment continues to reflect your needs.

There are no lock-in contracts, treatment is billed as it’s prepared and delivered.

Can I pause or cancel at any time?

Yes. There are no lock-in contracts, and you can pause or cancel your subscription at any time, cancellation applies from your next billing period and doesn’t affect charges already incurred, including treatment that’s already been prepared or supplied.

If you’re considering cancelling because of side effects, concerns about your progress or a change in circumstances, we’d encourage you to contact our partner doctor first. They can review your treatment, answer your questions and talk through whether any adjustments might help before you decide.
