Why Consultations matter

Check-ins aren’t just a formality, they’re key to getting the most out of your treatment

Track your progress with a professional

Adjust your treatment if things plateau

Flag any concerns or side effects early

Ask real doctors your questions, not a chatbot

Making the right adjustments at the right time gets the best results. It is important to still have your regular scheduled consultations even if things are tracking well.

A closer look at shedding

Not only is shedding normal its a key sign treatment’s working

It’s normal to worry when you notice hair fall, but shedding is not the same as hair loss.

What is shedding?

Shedding is a normal part of your hair’s natural cycle. Every day, it’s completely normal to lose between 50 and 100 hairs. This is not hair loss, it’s hair fall that happens as part of your scalp’s healthy renewal process.

Here’s why shedding happens:

  • Hair grows in cycles. When an old hair naturally falls out, it makes room for a new hair to grow.
  • Without shedding, new hair cannot grow because there’s no space for it.

Shedding is actually a sign that your scalp is working as it should.

Differences from hair loss?

Shedding is temporary and part of a healthy cycle. Hair falls out, but it is replaced. Hair loss happens when the cycle is disrupted.

Hairs fall out and are not replaced quickly enough, which can lead to thinning and balding over time.

Shedding during treatment

When you start treatment, shedding may temporarily increase. This happens because the treatment encourages hairs to move through their growth cycle faster, which can lead to more hairs falling out in the short term so new, stronger hairs can grow.

This shedding usually lasts 4 to 6 weeks and is temporary. It is a sign that your follicles are waking up and entering a healthy growth phase.

Key points to know:

  • Shedding is temporary and part of the treatment process
  • It shows your scalp is making room for new, stronger hairs
  • Not everyone experiences shedding and that is completely normal
  • Feeling unsettled is normal, but it is a positive sign your treatment is working

Try to see shedding as your scalp clearing the way for healthy hair. It is your body’s natural way of supporting new growth, not a step backward.

Men’s Hair Loss Causes

Men’s

Hair loss in men is usually caused by male pattern baldness. This is a genetic condition that makes your hair follicles more sensitive to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Over time, DHT can cause those follicles to shrink, leading to thinner and less visible hair. Other causes include medical conditions, medications, stress, and nutritional deficiencies.  […]

Hair Growth Supplements vs Medication

We’ve all seen them: the colourful bottles lining pharmacy shelves promising a “thick mop” of hair with just one daily vitamin. It sounds almost too easy, doesn’t it? If you’re sceptical, you’re on the right track. While supplements can give your hair a nutritional boost, they aren’t formulated to stop balding or wake up “sleeping” […]

Vitamins for Healthy Hair

Our hair follicles are busy bees. As highly active parts of our body, they need nutrients to produce healthy hair. These nutrients include a range of vitamins that help grow hair, including biotin, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin D, and vitamin A. Minerals are important too — particularly zinc, iron, and keratin. Some studies have […]

The Role of Hair Follicles

Science

Hair follicles are small, tunnel-like structures in the skin that anchor hair at the root. Each follicle contains a bulb at the base, where nearby blood vessels deliver the nutrients needed to support new hair growth. The strands then grow through tiny openings in the skin, known as pores.  For something so small, hair follicles […]

The Link Between Hair Loss & Testosterone

Men’s

Testosterone is linked to hair loss, but it isn’t the direct cause. The problem starts when that testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by an enzyme known as 5-alpha reductase. DHT is a more powerful hormone that can shrink hair follicles over time, meaning hair grows back finer and weaker, and can eventually stop growing […]

Some common questions

How long will The Hairy Pill take to work?

If you’re looking to treat hair loss, there is unfortunately no miracle overnight hair loss cure for men or women. Like all good things, the treatment takes time to work. For most patients, it may take between 3 and 6 months to start seeing results.

It’s important to talk to a doctor at regular intervals to make sure you’re on the right track.

What happens if I stop the treatment?

If you stop taking the treatment, it may stop working. The treatment can be taken long-term but we want to make sure it’s a simple, comfortable, and convenient part of your daily routine, which is why our partner doctors work with you to find what’s right for you.

Are there potential side effects?

With 650+ ingredient combinations, our partner doctors and pharmacists have a great deal of control over what goes into your hair loss treatment to significantly reduce the risks of side effects.

Part of The Hairy Pill® treatment is Side Effect Protect™. In the unlikely event you experience any side effects, our partner doctors can adjust the dose and ingredients immediately.
Communication is important so please don’t hesitate to contact our team if you experience side effects. Call (03) 8899 6322 or email us at [email protected].

What is Shedding?

Shedding is just your hair doing what it’s meant to do. Everyone loses about 50–100 hairs a day as part of the natural growth cycle. That’s not hair loss, it’s simply old hairs falling out so new ones can grow.

When you start treatment, you might notice a bit more shedding at first. This usually lasts 4–6 weeks and happens because the treatment pushes hairs through their cycle more quickly, making space for healthier, stronger hairs to come through.

    The key things to remember:

  • Shedding is temporary.
  • It’s actually a good sign your scalp is active and making room for new growth.
  • Not everyone experiences it, and that’s completely normal too.

Think of it as your scalp doing a spring clean- old hairs out and fresh ones in.

Is shedding common with The Hairy Pill®?

Noticing some extra hair shedding on your brush, after the shower, or on your pillow?

That’s totally normal. In fact, it’s a good sign!

Hair grows in cycles, so you’ll often move two steps forward (growth) and one step back (shedding) with the medication at first, over and again. As The Hairy Pill® starts to stimulate growth, new hair follicles from below will push out most of the old/dead hairs. This will make room for fresh new growth but it will feel like your hair is thinning out first.

Eventually, your hair can become much thicker, fuller and stronger all over. Then the shedding cycles will become much less noticeable.

You’ll also be on a more consistent dose over time so the changes will be more consistent. Hair loss is very slow at the hairline (it takes years) without replacement, whereas hair fall is fast and noticeable (medication related) with replacement.

If you aren’t noticing any shedding, please don’t be concerned. Each person is different and has a different sensitivity to treatment.

What happens if I stop taking treatment? Will my hair fall out?

The good news is, your hair shouldn’t fall out suddenly if you were to stop treatment. What’s most likely to happen is that you would slowly return back to the way your hair was before you began treatment. You would likely experience a shedding phase around 1-5 months after stopping treatment when the stimulation (from the ingredients) slows down.

If you wish to stop treatment, we recommend consulting with your doctor at your next follow-up consultation first. Alternatively, you can contact us on (03) 8899 6322. Or email us at [email protected] to discuss stopping your medication.
